In an innovative exploration user research case, the focus was set on integrating virtual reality AR & VR  into the dynamic environment of a moving car. The research aimed to uncover the potential of AR & VR in enhancing the travel experience through various scenarios, with the following specific goals:

1. Investigate VR Experiences in Transit: Explore the feasibility and impact of virtual reality (VR) experiences for users in a moving car.

2. Diverse Scenario Exploration: Assess how various VR scenarios, including virtual offices, immersive gaming, and virtual calls, can be adapted for high-speed automotive travel.

3. Enhancing Commutes: Understand how VR can transform regular car journeys into productive, entertaining, or socially engaging experiences.

4. Tailoring VR to Transit Contexts: Develop insights into creating VR applications that are specifically optimized for the unique environment and challenges of traveling in a vehicle at high speeds.

RESEARCH

My Role

In this XR project, my role as a UI/UX Designer and Researcher was crucial in developing user-centric interfaces and experiences for in-car VR and MR applications. My work involved conducting user research, informing the design process, and ensuring the interfaces were intuitive and adaptable to the dynamic automotive environment.

Timeline

The exploration phase of this innovative XR project was efficiently completed within a concise timeline of one month.

This project embarked on an ambitious journey to explore the integration of extended reality (XR) technology in automotive environments, focusing on enhancing the passenger experience during travel. Our objective was to investigate how virtual reality (VR) and mixed reality (MR) can transform the in-car experience across various scenarios, including work, entertainment, gaming, and relaxation.

 

The scope of the project encompassed developing immersive applications that adapt to the movement of the vehicle, ensuring seamless interaction for passengers. By leveraging the unique capabilities of XR, we aimed to create a multifaceted in-car environment where passengers can engage in activities ranging from productive work and interactive gaming to guided meditation for relaxation. This initiative represents a step forward in redefining the travel experience, showcasing the potential of XR in enriching everyday commutes and long journeys alike.

Meta & BMW Research

Nexus Studio joined forces with Meta and BMW for a pioneering research project, aiming to revolutionize the in-vehicle experience by exploring AR and VR integration in fast-moving vehicles.

In conclusion, our research underscores the versatile potential of extended reality (XR) technology in revolutionizing in-car experiences, spanning various scenarios:

1. Work Scenario:XR technology facilitates a virtual office space inside the car, enabling passengers to engage in productive work activities. This includes demonstrating video chats with avatars, allowing for a more immersive and interactive way to communicate and collaborate on projects while on the move.

2. Entertainment and Gaming: The technology elevates in-car entertainment with immersive movies and interactive storytelling. Particularly in gaming, mixed reality (MR) experiences are adapted to the changing environment outside the vehicle, offering a dynamic and responsive gaming experience that integrates real-world movement with virtual gameplay.

3. Relaxation and Meditation: A vital aspect of this technology is its ability to provide relaxation experiences. Users can isolate themselves in a VR mode for guided meditation and breathing exercises, offering a serene escape and mental rejuvenation during travel.
